Learn how revision surgery at our San Antonio, TX practice can correct problems associated with breast implants...

What Is Breast Revision Surgery? Understanding the Basics

Breast revision surgery is a corrective procedure. It involves removing and, typically, replacing the implants from a previous breast augmentation. By replacing the old breast implants, plastic surgeons improve the patient's appearance and also remedy any health issues linked to the original implants.

Removing Current Implants

Revision surgery is recommended when patients are unhappy with their current breast implants. This may be due to aesthetic flaws or various wellness concerns. Whatever the case, removal is ideal.

Placing New Implants

Once the previous breast implants are out, new implants can be placed. Cosmetic surgeons work carefully to meet the goals of the patient. An open dialogue and detailed planning can ensure your full satisfaction.

Improving Initial Results

Patients can finally enjoy the results they want, or they should be free from the problems caused by the previous implants. In other words, you can expect to feel confident in your skin again.

Breast Revision Surgery Offers You a Fresh Start

Are you unhappy with the results from a previous breast surgery? Our board-certified plastic surgeon in San Antonio, TX, can perform breast revision surgery to help you achieve the results you're looking for. Whether you want to improve breast size, shape, symmetry, or nipple position, or you've experienced complications like capsular contracture, we are ready to work with you.

Reasons for Breast Revision Surgery

There are many reasons to undergo breast implant revision. Some are cosmetic in nature, while others are related to the patient's health and wellness. The most common reasons for the revision procedure with our San Antonio plastic surgery office include:

Ruptured Breast Implants

Vehicle accidents, sports injuries, and time can cause implants to break or leak. Revision surgery replaces the ruptured breast implants with new ones.

Capsular Contracture

Capsular contracture is a painful surgical complication in which scar tissue forms and hardens around an implant. Breast revision is an effective capsular contracture treatment.

Other Surgical Complications

Capsular contracture is just one potential breast augmentation complication. Revision is recommended for patients who experience shifts in implant position, infections, and other problems.

Wrong Implant Size

While the majority of breast augmentation patients are happy with the size of their implants, some wish they'd gone bigger or smaller. Revision helps patients experience a more appropriate size.

Unhappy with Initial Surgery

Sometimes, patients notice their implants are asymmetrical after surgery. Patients may also be displeased with an unnatural shape to the breasts. Breast revision corrects these and other issues.

Touch-Up and Enhancement

Implant revision may be performed as part of a breast augmentation touch-up years after surgery. It's sometimes combined with a breast lift to correct age-related sagging.

The Breast Revision Procedure What Patients Can Expect

The breast revision procedure is relatively straightforward, using similar if not the same incision sites as the initial breast augmentation. We'll discuss breast implant revision in more detail during your visit to our San Antonio office, but this general overview offers an idea of what to expect.

Consultation

During the initial consultation, we will discuss any issues you are facing. This is a chance to talk about capsular contracture, leaks or ruptures, dissatisfaction in implant size, and other concerns.

Treatment Plan

Once the issues have been identified, we will develop a custom treatment plan with you. Our goal is to ensure the problems you face are addressed by placing new implants or in some cases, removing them entirely.

The Revision Surgery

The revision surgery is similar to the initial implant procedure. The old implants are removed, adjustments are made if necessary, and the new implants are placed.

Patient Recovery

Following breast implant revision, patients will require a few weeks to recover. Follow-up visits are scheduled to monitor healing and check on the condition of the new implants.

Returning to Normal

As you heal, you'll be able to return to your exercise routine and other activities. Take things slow, and consult us on what activities to avoid until you've fully recovered.

Just had surgery with Dr K on 4/11/19 he is so amazing he is very honest and informative about the procedure. His staff is amazing and sweet they will answer any questions no matter how silly you might think they are. Dr K even calls you himself the night after your surgery to check on you. Would highly recommend him to anyone and will be going back to him if I need anything else done.

Dr. K is very knowledgeable and I really appreciated his honesty.  He could have  told me I needed surgery, but instead he educated me, which led me to a more natural path.  This was a very positive experience.  I would feel very good about recommending him to anyone.
